Other fixed structures (and many buoys) in the Sound of Harris (except for the delightfully-named Drowning Rock) are related to the ferry route from Leverburgh to Berneray. The direction of buoyage changes as this route crosses the Cope Channel, so that from Leverburgh to Sgeir Chruaidh red beacons are to starboard, and from the Cabbage Group to Berneray they are to port. This line is now marked by day only as a transit with the Beacon in line with a structure on Sgeir Volinish.
